engagement picture preview :-)

Okay, I promised some preview pics from the engagement photo shoot. :-) and I follow through on my promises! These are unedited and just a random sampling. Jessica and Mandy were both snapping pics that day and these are just a few from Jess' camera. We're working on the save the date layout, I should be mailing those out in January.

This pretty much sums up how we felt through all of the plane clothes pictures...

Then we started having fun with the 70s!

Then Katy Perry and Russell Brand took a trip downtown...lol

Then we took some legit 80's hairband pics. I feel like that 1st one would have been our album cover (had we been an 80s rock duo about 30 years ago haha)

So there you  have it...just a teensy taste of the amazing-ness that happened on our photoshoot! :-)

Also, I've been working out a really neat movie clip montage for the wedding. I don't want to give away too many details but I'll just say the movie list includes dodgeball, pretty woman, and everything in between :-)...it is going to be super funnnnnn! Seriously, I am so excited about this wedding...it is going to be so much fun, if you're invited you don't want to miss it.

2 things FINALLY happened...

I picked a bridesmaid dress FINALLY!!! ANNNNNNNND we took pictures FINALLY!!!

Jeeez, I feel like this took me forever to make a decision. All of my lovely bridesmaids have ordered them, hopefully they will all fit and look gorgeous in them.
You can get a closer look at it here.

We're all going to be wearing yellow shoes (including me!) and I want them to accessorize in any way they want - as long as it's yellow :-). I'm not going to ask everyone to wear the same shoes, just the same general shade of yellow. That's not too much to ask right?

Here are some of the shoes I've been looking at!

Just for fun, here are some cute accessories :-)

I'm excited to see what kind of accessories everyone wears! Including myself :-). My aunt Judy loaned me her pear necklace, it looks absolutely gorgeous with the dress! I am so in love with it! I need to find some good earrings to wear now!
I'm also going to try and fashion some kind of hair clip out of one of our many brooches so Amanda (my awesome hair stylist!!) can put it in my hair. If you have an event and need a great hair stylist you should call her! Check out her Facebook page here. Maybe I'll get a yellow bracelet or ankle bracelet too. Who knows?

I'm really excited about TWO things: our invitations (which are close to done) and our save the dates (which we FINALLY took the pictures for 2 weekends ago). Hopefully, I can show you some more of the save the date pics soon because we did themes.

And honestly, the plain clothes pictures aren't even the best ones. Mandy is working on them diligently and I'll have them in the mail soon!! I'm super excited about them because they are SO. MUCH. FUN!!!

No other news in the wedding planning department. I'll be back soon with more I'm sure!

love,
Krystle

updates and engagement picture inspiration

Ok, first of all, can I just say that Nicole,  the woman designing our invitations, is super fun to work with? Seriously, I feel so incredibly lucky to have found her on Etsy. You should click here and check out her shop. She is very easy to communicate with and she totally shares my enthusiasm about these unique invitations. It's nice, and the icing on the cake is, she's a local gal from right here in Arkansas! I am so looking forward to working with her on these invitations in the near future. Hopefully I'll have a sample soon. I'm still debating on whether or not to post the progress. I'm thinking I'll wait until I've mailed them all.

Mo  has so many brooches wired up already!! And we are still collecting them. This bouquet is going to be so beautiful! I can't wait to see the finished product and the best part about it is I'll get to keep it forever :-).

I am so ready to take our engagement/save the date pictures...The hard part is getting Josh to commit to a date. For some reason, my fiancé who LOVES attention and being in front of a camera, has decided that engagement pictures are dumb...so I'm having a hard time getting him on board with this. However, I AM RELENTLESS and we will have these pictures taken and soon! I really want to have some fun and entertaining engagement pictures, not your typical photoshoot (is anyone surprised by that statement at this point?) We have an idea of what we want to do, and it's classic Josh & Krystle...I'm pretty excited.

Here are some engagement pics that inspire me:

I'm hoping to send out Save the Dates in December and then invitations in March or April. It will be so exciting to actually be putting these in the mail. And you can bet that as soon as we finish the photoshoot I'll be posting the high lights on the blog! So check back soon because these pictures will be taken this month! It is my mission!!!

Decision Time: Food

Ok, we've had this discussion before. The whole food situation was really scaring me. Luckily, I'm pretty sure I made a definite decision. ANNNNND I think you'll like it, because it's awesome, yummy, and a lot of fun.

To go along with our vintage cinema theme I am going to set up a...wait for it....Concession Stand. Complete with three different kinds of popcorn (regular, cheesy, and caramel) and a variety of candy. And that's not all! There will also be SMOOTHIES at the concession stand :-) The concession stand will be open before the ceremony so everyone can enjoy some refreshments and watch us get hitched at the same time.

Then after the ceremony, we will have a buffet prepared by a great chef and my cake, of course, by Carla (my cake mentor). I'm pretty excited about it all. I haven't decided on any kind of cake design. I can look at pictures of cakes all day long and tell you which ones I don't want, but I can't pick one that I DO want. I don't know what my problem is. But here are a few that peaked my interest.

This one is nice...and the color scheme is pretty much perfect

This one is striped...and kinda reminds me of a pop corn box, which is appropriate considering the theme. but that is way to much cake, I don't think we don't need one that big.

This one is pretty interesting, and I think that is the right amount of cake. It doesn't look too over the top.

I absolutely love this, it's really neat. But I'm not completely sold on it. I would like to have a more traditional looking cake. Maybe we can do one like this for some other occasion another time.

So, even if I can't make up my mind about a cake, at least I have a game plan on the food. :-)
My goal this week is to find some dang bridesmaid dresses! I would really like to check that off of the to-do list!

ALSO: Dress update, I had a fitting a couple of weekends ago, and guess what it was almost perfect! Just a few bells and whistles to add and it will be finished. It is exactly what I wanted and I am so happy about it! My grandma was with me and my mom when I tried it on and she approved. She also couldn't believe that it used to be my mom's dress. hehe it looks totally different.

OH! P.s. I'm ordering invitations soon and I am super duper excited about them! I'm not going to post any pictures yet, because you'll be getting them in the mail soon enough. I will tell you that our inspiration is vintage playbills. And they're really awesome looking!

Until next time (I'll be sharing our wedding soundtrack with you soon...it's not complete yet)

Progress Report :-)

Okay, so I posted a few weeks ago about the brooch bouquet and we have made a lot of progress!

We have acquired several brooches! Thanks to everyone who has purchased, or donated brooches to the cause! I am so grateful :-). Mo has officially started wiring them. They look awesome! I think we will probably end up painting some of them...but they already look awesome together so the paint is a minor detail.

*sneak peek*

Here are a few of them together. And this is not even all of them. :-) So excited!

I'm looking into invitations right now. Josh and I already have a pretty awesome idea for save the dates that will be pretty cheap, which is a good thing - because our preliminary guest list is a little bit HUGE.

Here are a few that I think are super cute:

These are super cute quirky!

That's all for now. Official countdown: 288 days

confession time: flowers

I have a confession to make: I don't really like flowers. Maybe that's the wrong way to put it...because I don't dislike them either. How about I have a confession to make: I'm indifferent to flowers.

I probably can't even name 10 different kinds of flowers, that's how little I know about them. And now I'm getting married and it's like in the top 5 questions that people keep asking me. The truth is, I just don't know. I've been looking around at bouquets, and weighing some more untraditional options (big surprise, right)

I looked at some of these felt flower bouquets. I think they're cute and crafty, but not really the style I'm going for in my wedding.

Then I looked at newspaper flower bouquets...which is a bit closer to what I'm thinking. I am definitely a fan...not completely sold on it though.

Just so you guys don't think I'm crazy...I did look at fresh flower bouquets as well.

But, what really caught my eye...weeks ago actually were brooch bouquets. This was confirmed when my future mother-in-law suggested it the other day. She even offered to help make it! She's amazing...and I'm super excited! She even purchased the first brooch the other day! :-)...I'm pretty excited about it because it will be a sweet keepsake from the big day...and it will look awesome in pictures!

Now, before any of you leave thinking I'm just trying to be untraditional for the sake of being untraditional...Here are a couple reasons I am going for this brooch bouquet.
1. It will last forever. Flowers are dead as soon as you pick them.
2. We will possibly (if we can locate it) be using some old family jewelry, which would just add to the cool history in this wedding.
3. It looks so cool! (am I right?)
4. I will be the only one with this kind of bouquet. My bridesmaids will have real flowers and the groomsmen will have real flower boutonnieres. We will probably make a fake bouquet for tossing - haven't worked the details out that far yet...but I don't want to give someone a concussion by throwing a bunch of enamel brooches into a crowd.

My style choices may not be typical...but I am more than fine with that. I'm so excited!! But every decision is one that I will be proud of in 50 years when I'm looking back at the wedding pictures :-).

P.S. Mandy found this recently...It's becoming my mantra haha

Down to business: bridesmaid dresses.

JUST FOR THE RECORD: I absolutely am going to be wearing my mom's dress on my big day. Our remodel of her original dress is practically completed. I will not be putting any pictures of it up on the blog...because I want it to be a surprise. Very few people will know what it looks like before the wedding. BUT just so you know, the dress remodel is successful...be excited with me! :-)

Now down to business. Let's talk bridesmaid dresses. I've already mentioned that I want to have gray dresses and yellow shoes/accessories. Here is my dilemma: should I make them all wear the same dress? Or three different dresses from one collection? Or just give them all a swatch of fabric and let them pick one out for themselves? I do not know what to do!

I know what I like, but honestly I want them to like their dresses too!

I've been scouring sites like esty.com, modcloth.com, and shopruche.com here are some finds that I am partial to. (Oh p.s. and btw they are all under $80)

Source: None via Krystle on Pinterest

I think these three kind of look cohesive together. The top right and bottom one are actually from the same seller on Etsy.

I actually really like this one! I think there are endless possibilities for accessorizing it!

I also like this one, it's a bit less formal but I think it's cute.

I would love to show you some accessory ideas...but I really need to make a dress decision first :-p

I'm going to submit these to my lovely bridesmaids and see what they think...very soon.

much love,
Krystle

We. Have. Set. A. Date.

Okay, a date has been set! We are getting married on July 7, 2012. I'm really excited about this because my parents were married on July 8, 1972. AND my mom and I are making my dress out of her dress, that she made almost 40 years ago to the day. I think that's a really cool piece of history to have at a wedding. :-)

So, about this dress. I don't want to give too much away...but I'll tell you a bit about it. It's going to be a strapless, sweetheart neckline, short dress. My mom's original dress was covered in lace and we are keeping a lot of the lace. We only bought extra material for the bodice of the dress. And the lining is all original, we had to take it in a teensy bit but then we just cut it to the shorter length and hemmed it. I'm so excited to see how it turns out. I think it's going to be beautiful!

I'm going home this weekend, so I'm going to try and get a couple wedding pictures from my parents wedding so I can show you what the original dress looked like. It's going to be a complete transformation, I think you'll be surprised.

So mark your calendars for July 7, 2012! It's the big day and it's 310 days away!!

decisions, decisions: reception food

Ok, we've talked engagement story, colors, and tiny bit of decor. Now it's time to talk food. Honestly, this whole food thing scares me a little bit. Two reasons really: 1. Not sure how many people will end up on the guest list so no clue how many mouths to feed. 2. I have no idea what kind of food I want on the menu. Two positive things I know are: 1. I do want it to be buffet style. 2. I know I want to have a local smoothie place set up a smoothie bar! (how fantastic would that be??!)

I have seen some pretty amazing wedding reception food ideas on pinterest though. so for the sake of inspiration here are some some that caught my eye.

personal favorite: food truck wedding! What? so cute.
